Countdown to Goodbye

Today went so well! I talked him into going to the early church service and on the way there I told him why but didn’t give all the details. I just told him I had a surprise planned for noon in town. For the next three hours he guessed and asked questions constantly. Everything from helicopter rides to horse back riding to flying in family! He even guessed a massage but I managed to not give it up until we actually got there. The massage was great. He loved it and was so grateful. I am so glad that I was able to pull it off and that he enjoyed it. Totally worth it.

Now we’re back home and the time has come for him to pack his gear and bags 😔. I’ve never seen so much camo! We turned the guest room into his room. He has a ton of tools and tool boxes. Since we don’t have a garage he definitely needed it most. It ended up working out though because he go issued so much gear! So instead of trying to cram everything into our closet, he just keeps all his issued gear in the guest room. I just checked in on him to see how packing was going and the floor was covered with gear and poor thing was just sitting in the middle so overwhelmed. Apparently he has to fit it all into like two or three bags.

Until now, its been some what easy for us both to avoid the topic of the deployment all together. But with his bags packed, its forced us to finally come to terms with it and its tough! Four days until we say goodbye. *Just want to clarify, he is not leaving for his deployment in 4 days. Rather I am leaving to go home for the holidays in four days and will not see him again until he gets back. Not breaking OPSEC.* Neither of us are ready… but are you ever!? Didn’t know how we would do it last time but somewhat we did, I know it will be the same way this time too. The last seven months where just practice for this. Heres to treasuring every second you get with your loved ones.

      1. And the crazy thing is he just got back from 7 months of training just a few weeks ago 🤦🏼‍♀️ But what can you do. 2 months is a long time!!! I’ve found that whether its a long or short separation, being away from the one you love most is one of the hardest things but when you finally are reunited, it truly is the best and worth all the time apart. Thinking about the homecoming keeps me going for sure.

I pray this month next month is the slowest month of your life so you can enjoy as much time together as possible ❤️

    1. Wow, thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words!!! Its incredibly tough when someone you love so much joins. But at the same time, you are so proud that they want to do something so selfless and honorable. Its a mix of emotions, thats for sure. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog as well as reach out to me. I always love connecting with people who understand and are going through similar situations! Best wishes to you and your family!

    1. That is so incredibly special that you will support him no matter what he decides. Unfortunately, my in laws were very against my husband joining and it made things more difficult and stressful than they needed to be. Its taken them almost a year but thankfully they have begun to accept and even support his decision and it makes such a wonderful difference. There is nothing like support from your parents and family.
